Going out with my colleagues after work to have fun is such an engaging
exercise to gain insights about their thought-process and social quotient. It
is on these occasions that I learn about the “why” of a person. This also
gives me a good perspective on “what” they are capable of while observant
with the “how” of their approach. It is on these occasions when I am able
to mine “the diamonds in the rough”.
Whenever it comes to the time when there is a need for someone to do
special projects at work, it is always a comfort to go back to my “diamond”
discoveries, confident of their abilities to succeed. Surprisingly, most of the
time, the reaction I get them from them when given such a task, is a
puzzled look. However, one can see in their eyes the excitement when
accepting the job. True enough, 99% of the time, these “diamonds”
performed well beyond expectations. The opportunity pushed to them is
the start of their journey to seek for more… creating more confidence and
trust from management on what they can do. The diamonds just need to
be drilled and grinded to shine!
